Senior Analyst, Statistical Methods

The purpose of the role

The Statistical Methods branch provides statistical leadership and methodological solutions to Stats NZ in areas such as sample design and estimation, time series, confidentiality, data integration, editing and imputation, and data analysis. We are looking for technical leaders to provide a high level of statistical expertise, technical leadership and advice to a range of people and teams within Stats NZ.

This vacancy is in the Household and Population Statistics support team. The successful applicant would be expected to provide leadership in household collection design and development, but would also be expected to work in other areas  as required. 

As a Senior Analyst you will identify, develop and deliver research and projects that support the strategic directions of Statistical Methods and Stats NZ. You will establish strong connections with your peers across the Official Statistics System and with the international statistical community. You will play a key role in the development of other statisticians as a coach and mentor.

Person specifications

To be successful in this role, you ll have:

  • a degree in statistics or related discipline, preferably at the postgraduate level
  • relevant professional experience
  • a broad knowledge of statistical methodology, preferably including household survey design
  • extensive experience in the application of at least one area of statistical methodology
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
