Job Description

Policy Advisor

New Zealand Police

Police National Headquarters

Permanent, Full-time

Remuneration range: $76,304.00 – 112,741.00

Job Requisition ID 8942

Our mission is to make New Zealand the world's safest country

  • Are you bright, enthusiastic and looking to make a real difference?
  • Would you like the opportunity to shape and develop government Policy to improve safety and reduce offending on our roads, at sea and in the air?
  • Can you use your knowledge of the policy process, evidence and data, program design and relationship management to influence and lead others across Police and our government partners?

If you are a policy professional and these questions spark your curiosity then we want to hear from you!

We are seeking a Policy Advisor to join our Transport Policy team.

You will work with our partners as well as internal policing groups to support the development and implementation of innovative government policy and solutions that will help reduce crime and improve community safety.

The Policy and Partnerships Group provides advice on a remarkable and fascinating range of policy issues, from vulnerable children, youth development and family harm through international organised crime and gangs, to drug policy, firearms and other legislation, road and transport safety, national security, emergency management and terrorism. We have the advantage of working closely with operational Police partners who bring their knowledge of policy opportunities and how policy is likely to affect the real world. Our work genuinely affects New Zealanders every day.

The Transport Team provides policy and strategic advice to the Minister of Police, the Commissioner and the Police Executive and works collaboratively with our transport sector partners on a wide range of transport safety and security policy issues. Our primary focus is on road safety issues, such as cross-government strategic road safety approaches and how to reduce the road toll. But we also cover issues such as how to reduce harm in relation to fleeing drivers and broader transport issues such as vehicle crime and aviation policy and security. This role reports to the manager of the Transport Policy team, but may at times also involve tasks across any of our teams.

Skills & Experience:

  • 1 -2 years policy relevant policy experience
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification is desirable.
