Job Description

* Manage a legislative process, from drafting a Bill to passage into law

The State Services Commission (SSC) leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.

The government is progressing reform to replace the State Sector Act 1988 with a new Public Service Act. This will be the most fundament shift across the New Zealand public sector in 30 years and your excellent communication skills will help explain the proposed changes and our vision for the future. This fixed term position is being established to oversee the legislative change until August 2020. You will bring together your experience of policy and legislative processes with your strong organisational skills to support the passage of the Bill in a way that is responsive and collaborative. We have a smart and friendly team of policy and legal advisors who will look to you to plan and coordinate their advice to Ministers and Parliament.

Working in the State Services Commission gives a unique view across the Public Service and an excellent chance to develop your strategic leadership. You will demonstrate your management and mentoring skills, leading a project team drawn from across the Commission and including secondees from across agencies. You will interact with Ministers, Chief Executives and senior leaders across the system, and hone your influencing skills when engaging public servants in the proposed changes.
