2018 Census Customer Relations Advisor

We are looking for an experienced Customer Relations Advisor to join the 2018 Census Programme.

  • This is a fixed term position until December 2019.
  • Wellington or Christchurch based

Stats NZ, Tatauranga Aotearoa, is New Zealand s only government agency that lives, breathes and dreams data. We re the home of the Government Statistician and the Chief Data Steward and we think data has the power to change lives.  We re doing this by taking the lead on the tools, policy and evolving digital world of data and statistics.

The purpose of the role

The census is the official count of people in New Zealand, and the places in which they live. Census information is used by central government, councils, community groups, iwi and business to plan for the future.  Our goal is to produce the best possible count and products from the 2018 Census.

We need an experienced advisor to help support the census programme to:

  • Lead and support customer engagement planning and operational activities to ensure success of project outcomes
  • Building strong relationships with customers 
  • Respond effectively to enquiries from clients with official statistics and other information relevant to their needs
  • Pro-active identification of  opportunities and engagement strategies to support all phases of the census
  • You will play a key role to support all the phases of the 2018 Census to deliver benefits to our customers while being change-agile.
  • Being a passionate presenter and advocate for the value of census and other official statistics

Person specifications

We are looking for a motivated individual who:

  • Possess a relevant tertiary qualification or extensive and comparable, relevant experience.
  • Has experience working in project teams or business areas that work directly with customers
  • Possess good written and oral language skills
  • Experience in leading presentations and discussions
  • Understands census information needs and data quality
  • Be intellectually, analytically and conceptually agile and experienced in dealing with complex matters.

We re also offering a base salary for this role between $60,000 to $69,000 depending on the skills and experience you bring to the role.
