Play a lead role in shaping our advice to Ministers on the effectiveness and efficiency of spending across the public sector, with a focus on ensuring agencies have the right funding in the right places to improve wellbeing for New Zealanders.

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world-leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders.  We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly-skilled and motivated Senior Analyst or Analyst to join our System Design and Strategy team.

The team is responsible for developing policy and designing practical improvements to New Zealand's public finance system.  This includes:

  • Baseline reviews. Programme of reviews to better understand the effectiveness and efficiency of spending across Government, with a view to improving wellbeing of New Zealanders, and expanding the use of the Living Standards Framework.
  • Budget and Public sector reform. Programme of public finance reform to increase collaboration, innovation and performance across the public sector.


In this role you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Provide advice to senior managers and Ministers


About You

You're a high performer who is keen to further their development and broaden their experience.  Additionally you'll have:

Some financial and performance analysis experience would be an advantage, as would experience in policy and budget. The ability to successfully manage relationships is vital to this role as it is outwardly focused working closely with agencies.  Secondments from other government agencies will also be considered.
