Job Description

  • Provide advice on the Government's fiscal frameworks and its fiscal strategy
  • Lead complex and challenging policy projects
  • Be part of a supportive, enthusiastic and high performing team

The Treasury is the government's lead economic, financial and regulatory advisor. Our vision is to be a world leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders. We have an opportunity for two talented and high achieving Senior Analysts to join our Macroeconomic & Fiscal Policy team. In these roles, you will have a significant opportunity to influence and help shape the macroeconomic policy agenda, including providing advice directly to the Minister of Finance. You will be surrounded by a team full of passionate and curious individuals and have a front row seat to what is happening in the New Zealand economy.

Our team is leading a number of high profile pieces of work and these roles provide an opportunity to lead or contribute to a number of projects, depending on the skills of the successful applicants. Initially, the main focus for the two positions will be:

  • Fiscal strategy - formulating and delivering fiscal strategy advice to the Minister of Finance, and driving forward our work to embed our living standards approach in this advice. This role will provide an opportunity to work closely with other teams in the Treasury and make a substantial contribution to legislative publications such as the Fiscal Strategy Report and the Long-term Fiscal Statement.
  • Independent fiscal institution - working as part of a team to deliver the Government's proposal to establish an Independent Fiscal Institution. This role will provide an opportunity to shape the new institution, work through the policy design, and play a leading role steering legislation through the Parliamentary process.

These roles would suit you if you're a Senior Analyst with a tertiary qualification and experience in developing and providing economic or regulatory policy advice.  The successful candidates will already have a significant breadth and depth of ideally 5+ years' analytical experience as well as:

  • Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts clearly and succinctly
  • Sound analytical skills and an ability to think critically about complex policy issues
  • Experience working with others to develop agreed solutions
  • The ability to manage relationships and to influence
  • Experience leading people, projects, or policy processes
  • An organised, proactive mind-set, with the ability to take ownership for their work

The Treasury values diversity amongst its employees and encourages a positive work/non-work balance with flexible work arrangements so talk to us about flexible work options. We are also happy to consider candidates interested in a secondment opportunity.

Applications close -Sunday 28 April.  All applications must be made online.
