Job Description

About the role

The Ministry for Women, Te Minitatanga mō ngā Wāhine, has an exciting second tier opportunity in the role of Director, Corporate Services. We are the Government's principal advisor on achieving better results for New Zealand women. Our vision is that Aotearoa New Zealand is a great place to be a woman or girl, wāhine Māori succeed as Māori, and gender is not a barrier to wellbeing.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and part of the Senior Leadership Team, this position has a strong strategic leadership focus. You will lead oversight of all aspects of the corporate function, including human resources, finance, IT and strategic planning and reporting. This role also has responsibility for our nominations service and ministerial servicing.

You will be part of the Leadership Team making organisational decisions for the Ministry and ensuring that the organisation is healthy and future focused. We are focused on being more diverse in our perspectives and advice, collaborating more effectively with our partners, and improving the visibility of our work. A key focus for the Ministry is to improve our overall awareness and understanding of tikanga and how we can support outcomes of wāhine Māori.

In return for your talent, we can offer you experience at a second tier level, an ability to innovate and drive change, a collegial and flexible working environment, and a chance to contribute to making a difference to the lives of New Zealand women and girls.

Working flexibly

The Ministry is working towards being a flexible-by-default organisation. We have a range of flexible working arrangements in place with our staff including part time hours, compressed hours and remote working. We work together to put in place flexible arrangements that best suit each individual, their team and the organisation. We are open to considering a flexible arrangement for this role so please let us know how that might work for you as part of your application.

About you

The Ministry selects on capability not gender and welcomes applications from a diverse range of candidates. Currently, around 20% of our workforce is male. We are actively trying to grow this and we welcome and encourage applications from suitably qualified male candidates.

To be successful in this role you will have or can demonstrate potential in the following areas:

  • Experience setting or contributing to organisational strategy and a future focus or a demonstrated ability to step up to the challenge
  • Business insight with an ability to drive purpose and performance through organisational operations
  • Experience working with or in the public sector with a proven ability to achieve results in a political environment
  • Proven people management skills and experience
  • Strong relationship management, communication and influencing skills
  • A tertiary qualification or suitable senior level experience

If you meet some or all of these requirements, or have the potential to develop them, we would love to hear from you.
