Play a lead role in shaping the economic policy agenda

  • Provide strategic advice to improve New Zealanders living standards
  • Lead complex and challenging policy projects
  • Be part of a supportive, enthusiastic and high performing team

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world-leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders. We have an opportunity for a talented and high achieving Senior Analyst to join the Economic Strategy and Productivity team.

In the Economic Strategy and Productivity team, we partner with other agencies to provide high quality advice to Government centered on building a productive, sustainable and inclusive economy. We support each other as a team, share knowledge and work together to advise Ministers to achieve these outcomes.

We have opportunities related to:

  • Advising Ministers on policy settings to improve New Zealand's economic performance and living standards
  • Advising Ministers on the appropriate policy responses to Future of Work challenges such as disruptions to labour markets brought about by technological change
  • Assisting in coordinating policy responses in a cross-agency context
  • Interfacing with international organisations such as the OECD on assessment of New Zealand's economic performance

This role would suit those with excellent relationship management and engagement skills, experience in managing policy processes and expertise in economics, systems thinking or public policy.  If you have been successful working in critical and complex policy areas, and you understand how to use your strong communication, influencing and analytical skills to get traction on complex policy problems, then we would like to hear from you.

As the appointment is at the senior analyst level, you will already have a significant breadth and depth of analytical experience. This role provides the opportunity to lead others and further develop your leadership skills.

We can offer:

  • Interesting work across a diverse range of areas, with the opportunity to drive real change and improve living standards for New Zealanders
  • A collaborative work environment where you will interact with a range of people and external stakeholders
  • A commitment to providing work and training opportunities that support your development and career aspirations
  • The opportunity to work in a diverse, supportive and high performing environment striving for collective impact

We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and understand the importance of fostering a working environment where excellence is recognised and where staff are encouraged to develop their own talents and potential. The Treasury values diversity amongst its employees and please talk to us about flexible work options.

Secondments from other government agencies will be considered.
