The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) aims to promote better outcomes for investors, consumers, professionals, businesses, and the New Zealand economy. The Supervision team monitors the conduct, competency and compliance of financial market participants.

Our Supervision team is at the forefront of industry developments and issues, and our agile approach to market supervision means no two days are ever the same.

We have an exciting opportunity for two graduates to join our Supervision team as Associate Advisers. You will learn and develop new skills, gain exposure and experience in working closely with a range of licensed market participants, including banks, insurers, fund managers, derivatives issuers and financial advisers. We are also one of the Anti- Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism supervisors within New Zealand.

In the role as an Associate Adviser, under the guidance of senior team members, you will be given the opportunity to develop in the following areas:

  • risk-based and intelligence-led monitoring reviews - both desk-based and on-site;
  • contributing to thematic reviews, where industry-wide risks and issues are analysed and addressed;
  • assessment of intelligence received from licensed market participants, customers and members of the public to determine the appropriate regulatory action;
  • review of new market participant licence applications;
  • supporting the broader FMA team with the delivery of projects; and
  • participating in structured regulatory learning through our leading Government Regulatory Program.

Ideal candidates for this role:

  • have recently completed, or are about to complete, a Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • have an interest in the financial services sector
  • display strong interpersonal skills, allowing you to work collaboratively to establish positive and productive relationships
  • possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • are resilient, flexible and adaptable to a diverse and fast-paced work environment
  • have a willingness to keep learning and ask "why?"
