Job Description

Assistant Investigator, Investigations and Dispute Resolution

  • Forward thinking, dynamic Crown entity
  • Handle enquiries from the general public
  • Permanent opportunity
  • Wellington CBD location

The word “privacy” means different things to different people. The Privacy Act applies to every person, business and organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner works to help New Zealanders develop and promote a culture in which personal information is protected and respected.

Reporting to a Senior Investigator, you will help provide a responsive and high quality public information service. Your core responsibility will be handling incoming enquiries under the Privacy Act. This important front line role requires someone with excellent communication skills, both oral and written, the ability to relate to people at all levels, and a commitment to first class customer service. This unique opportunity would suit a recent graduate with a keen interest in privacy law or someone more experienced looking to re-enter the workforce.

You will need to develop a sound working knowledge of the Privacy Act and related legislation in order to provide well considered and factually accurate responses to enquiries.  Prior experience, possibly in a call centre role, and familiarity with handling enquiries across a multitude of channels from phone to online to email, would be an advantage.  As the call load can be high and enquiries sometimes highly charged, you will need to be a calm and mature minded individual who does not crack under pressure or emotion.

This organisation prides itself on its ability to help New Zealanders with any alleged breach of their privacy in a manner that is professional and transparent. It is not something New Zealanders take lightly, and you will be trained to the level of service the public have a right to expect.

You will be rewarded with working in a progressive and innovative organisation where your voice is heard and your contribution is valued. This organisation believes in the development of its people and you will be supported in your professional development.

If you have enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity and a passion to learn – then we want to hear from you!

Applications close: Monday 27 May at 9.00am.
