Job Description

What are you doing for the next 12 months? Is your work not providing the mental stimulation and fun you need?

Do you want to work with some fantastic people and have fun doing it? (see I mentioned fun twice, so it must be true)

Interested? Well do I have a deal for you.

I m Dave, my rather overly grand position title is Senior Manager: Investment Delivery and I work in the Enterprise Portfolio Office (EPO). If you apply and get shortlisted for an interview, I ll explain what we do, what I do, and how you will contribute to the best EPO in the public sector.

One of our Programme Administrators is on Maternity leave for 12 months. She is about to add to the population of Aotearoa by one, and we will really miss her. It does however give you a chance to step into this exciting role for twelve months.

Who we are

At Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa, our vision is to unleash the power of data to change lives.  As New Zealand s official data and statistics agency, we are tasked with leading the way for New Zealand s data future, enabling data-led innovation across society, the economy, and the environment.

The role and you

It s a very different type of role. You will be working in a business unit that includes

Change and Benefits Managers and Advisors, Portfolio Managers / Investment Delivery Managers, Project Advisors, Business Analysts, Project and Programme Managers, Programme and Portfolio co-ordinators.

The EPO has people in Wellington and Christchurch, so travel is a distinct possibility.

I m looking for the following, someone who

  • has a very positive attitude. Project skills are not essential, it s a person with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn that is important
  • is incredibly organised
  • can truly multi-task, and I don t believe only women can multi task. (I do know I can t)
  • is a creative thinker who is always looking to do things differently and improve how we work
  • who can assertively push back and challenge constructively
  • can be a little bit bossy and assertive, but in a nice way.
  • wants to learn
  • can work on their own or with a team.
  • has a sense of humour and noticeably enjoys coming into work, even on Mondays.
  • a Liverpool supporter (but HR say I can t make that a mandatory requirement ?)
,

What do you get out of it?

  • experience and knowledge in the Project and Portfolio space.
  • experience and knowledge in the Change and Benefits Management space
  • interesting work, no two days that are the same
  • gain knowledge across the whole of Statistics New Zealand, and the public sector in general
  • You will probably drink way too much coffee or tea than is good for you
  • You will learn more than you ever wanted to know about Liverpool Football Club
  • Nearly forgot, you ll get paid

You ll be joining an inclusive environment in which all people, regardless of gender, race, religion or background can come do their best work. Our goal is to provide our staff with a working environment that provides them with the opportunity to:

  • have challenging, varied and interesting work
  • develop and grow their careers
  • balance life and work, and
  • work in an agile, dynamic and flexible manner.

We care about our people, and value your drive, energy and inquisitive nature. Bottom line, we are in search of real people that don t believe in the status quo and seek to add value every day.

We re also offering a [base salary/ remuneration for this role between $45,000 and $55,000depending on the skills and experience you bring to the role.

OK, you ve got this far if you are a passionate and talented person that relishes the idea of becoming part of NZ s data ecosystem, then come join our team!

I m old school so your cover letter is as important as your CV. Your CV should detail your experience, capability and skills. Your cover letter should give me and the selection panel a real insight into your personality. It should also include one question that if you are shortlisted you wish the panel to answer.
