Job Description

Is your background in conservation animal pest and weed control, threatened species management and biosecurity? Are you skilled at field delivery?  Does the idea of working across a diverse landscape including Tikapa Moana / Hauraki Gulf Islands appeal to you?  If so, Auckland is calling you.


The Auckland Inner Islands team is looking for an experienced biodiversity ranger to join a team of 4 other rangers based at North Head. In this role you will be part of a team that undertakes animal pest surveillance, weed control and threatened species management across islands of Tikapa Moana. You will be equally at home overseeing the maintenance of trap and tunnel networks, leading a weed team controlling weeds, monitoring takahe or tuturuatu / shore plover. The role will also include assisting the delivery of the biosecurity programme including biosecurity inspections and auditing Pest Free Warrants.

  • Excellent team membership skills

  • Experience with weed control
  • Team leadership skills
  • Knowledge and practice in incursion response
  • Relationship management skills
  • Contract management skills
  • An ability to work and build successful relationships with iwi, whanau and hapu.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
