Job Description

Senior Communications Advisor - Internal Communications

  • Working closely with IR's Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic communications advice.
  • Based in Wellington, this is a fixed term role to June 2020

Inland Revenue (IR) is transforming. We're making it easier for customers to do business with us. We're listening and working collaboratively with customers and agencies across government and in the private sector, as we design new processes and services.

To support this, we need a Senior Advisor in our Internal Communications team to inspire, lead, and provide excellent advice with integrity and courage.

We are a great bunch of people here at IR and in this role, you will be part of a fantastic Internal Communications team with a wide breadth of experience and skills.

About the role

As a senior member of the team, you'll be creating and delivering communication strategies and plans, as well as working alongside our Internal Communications Manager to act as a sounding board and mentor for the team.

You'll be providing advice, planning and delivering communications for internal customers, so your ability to influence and build strong senior professional relationships is critical.

You will have an eye for continuous improvement and innovation, be a strong part of the internal communications team and contribute to ensuring our IR people are great story-tellers themselves.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Proven experience providing strategic communications advice within a corporate or internal communications team, ideally within a large, complex organisation.
  • Your pride in being able to make strategic connections across the organisation and your knowledge of how to build trusted relationships at a senior level.
  • The ability to think strategically and tactically, happily rolling up your sleeves to pitch in when needed.
  • Your previous experience leading and mentoring others, especially less experienced members of the team.
  • Creativity! You're curious and enjoy exploring the possibilities.
  • A pragmatic and common-sense approach. You are experienced at working at pace and you know how to make things happen.
  • Your ability to spot a good story and your excellent story and video script writing skills
