Job Description

What you will do

As one of four Product Managers within our newly created Enterprise Products and Systems team your role will sit within the End User Compute tower which delivers key end user assets (physical and digital) and products for consumption by NZDF and key partners.

As the Product Manager – End User Compute you will have the overarching responsibility for all products within the End User Compute domain, including the sourcing of IT products and services as required. These include Workstations & Devices, Enterprise Applications, Mobility, Unified Communications, Application Stores, Portable Storage and Multifunction Devices.

This is a varied and collaborative role in which you will embrace both strategic and operational activities including:

  • Working closely with customers, stakeholders and leaders of other domains and portfolios to build an understanding of the technology platforms that underpin your respective products;
  • Ensuring that impacts of changes across domains are identified and communicated, brokering agreement across domains to ensure conflicting requirements are resolved;
  • Defining the vision and strategy for the products within the End User Compute domain;
  • Prioritising and de-conflicting requirements from stakeholders; and
  • Driving the product backlog, providing support as required.

What we need

We are keen to hear from you if you have previous knowledge of Product Ownership or demonstrated leadership in a similar role.

Ideally you will have an in-depth understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and/or product lifecycle. As well as displaying a thorough understanding of the agile methodology.

We are particularly interested in your analytical and problem solving skills.

You will also have experience working in End User Compute and/or using the relevant technologies.

Please note: You must be able and willing to travel within New Zealand and overseas if required. This position may involve out-of-hours work. This role will initially be based in Petone however we are currently working through our longer-term office location requirements in the broader Wellington area. This means that in future you may need to be able to work in one of our other CIS offices across the Wellington and Hutt Valley region.

Who we are

CIS Branch provides the core information and communication services that underpin New Zealand Defence operations.  We are entrusted to deliver and support the Defence technology that helps keep New Zealanders safe.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force contributes to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Why Us

 Let's just say we're not your typical corporate IT department:

  • We provide support to more than 14,000 military and civilian Defence Force personnel who are dispersed on seven continents, often in geographically remote, hostile environments;
  • Our solutions are deployed to personal devices, vehicles, ships and planes;
  • We're here to deliver military outcomes, not just the technology behind them.

Check out the great benefits for you and your family when you join NZDF!

We expect to appoint around the midpoint of the salary band for this role which is $157,207 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution. This may be negotiable depending on experience
