Job Description

At Stats NZ we unleash the power of data to change lives.

We are looking for someone who will partner with customers and stakeholders to deliver value out of New Zealand s economic data.

You will have a passion for exploring data and using it to bring insights to customers about the prices that New Zealanders pay for food, rent, petrol, and other consumer products.

Your customer service focus will help ensure that we meet our goal of empowering decisions by adding value to NZ s most important economic data.

Everything you do is grounded in robust processes. You will manage the release of insights and commentary, providing quality assurance and managing risks. You will provide guidance on interpreting trends or unexpected results in releases.

This is an opportunity for an experienced analyst to step up to a more senior analytical role. You will be an expert overseeing production of the highly visible statistical outputs that make up the Consumer Price Index. Our data is used by public and private sector economists, media, employers, and members of the public.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A curious intellect
  • Passion for customer service
  • Ability to transform data into insights
  • A track record of delivering analysis to tight deadlines
  • Experience shaping processes to deliver reliable outcomes

An understanding of Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori is also advantageous. For this role we also require:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to train and coach others
  • At least three years experience in data analysis, including at least one year either producing economic statistics or working in a relevant economic policy or research role
