 Background

You would initially start work in Mana Honohono - the Investments and Partnerships Directorate.  Within this directorate, the Hono Tātaki – Resource Efficiency and Innovation team is charged with accelerating a transition to a circular economy, increasing resource efficiency and achieving waste minimisation.   

Our stakeholders and partners are diverse and include iwi, local government, the commercial sector and non-governmental organisations. Achieving tangible results by partnering with others is critical to the success of this role.

Role purpose

Our primary legislative drivers are the Waste Minimisation Act, the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, the Resource Management Act, the Litter Act and the Local Government Act. Our operational policy is driven from primary legislation, National Environmental Standards and government direction (e.g. the New Zealand Waste Strategy). As an Investment Manager/Senior Investment Manager, you be an important part of the investment management of the Waste Minimisation Fund.  You will be located in Hono Tātaki – Resource Efficiency & Innovation, which has a focus on circular economy initiatives to design waste out of the system.  Current investments per annum are around $60M, with an additional $13M per funding round every year.  We are moving to a targeted investment approach, and you will be instrumental in driving and implementing our new approach. 

The Successful Candidate for Investment Manager roles will be able to demonstrate: 

  • knowledge of grant funding and/or procurement processes
  • experience and/or knowledge in evaluation and implementing outcome frameworks is  an advantage
  • knowledge  or understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao Maori
  • well-developed communication and interpersonal skillx
  • a  desire to influence and build relationships.

The Successful Candidate for Senior Investment Manager roles will be able to demonstrate: 

  • investment management experience (including experience managing grant funding or procurement processes)
  • experience in evaluation and implementing outcome frameworks is  an advantage
  • experience in coaching and mentoring other team members
  • knowledge or understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao Maori
  • high level communication  and interpersonal skills
  • a desire to influence and build relationships.

You will also have experience partnering with our key stakeholders from the commercial sector, iwi groups, local government and the community sector.

Salary range for these roles are:

  • $60,605 - $81,994 (Investment Manager)
  • $86,005 - $116,360 (Senior Investment Manager)
