A fantastic opportunity to apply your skills at the heart of government in tax policy.

  • Are you an experienced policy analyst with a background in economics?
  • Would you like to help set the strategic direction for New Zealand's tax policy?
  • Come join our supportive, collaborative and high performing team

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world-leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders.  We're at the heart of decision making and participate in amazing conversations.

The Treasury's Tax Strategy team provides tax policy advice to the Ministers of Finance and Revenue, whilst working alongside Inland Revenue.  We focus on the issues that have the most significant economic, fiscal or wider implications, and on shaping the Government's overall strategy.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Analyst or Senior Analyst to join our team. You will combine your policy and economics skills to advise Ministers on potential tax changes. You will work closely with Ministers and officials in teams across the Treasury and at Inland Revenue on a range of major tax policy issues.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Working jointly with Inland Revenue to provide advice to the Ministers of Finance and Revenue
  • Helping deliver the Government's Tax Policy Work Programme
  • Engaging with a range of stakeholders in the public, private and NGO sectors
  • Undertaking research on important current and future tax policy issues

About You

  • Ideally you have at least two years of policy experience and a strong background in economics (although other backgrounds will be considered)
  • Highly developed analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with others to achieve objectives
  • Passionate about developing policy changes to improve the living standards of New Zealanders

In return we can offer

  • Interesting and exciting work that makes a difference for New Zealand, in a great organisation
  • Excellent mentoring support within a committed and high-performing team
  • The opportunity to bring new ideas and analysis into policy discussions, and to influence key decision makers
  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment where you will interact with a range of people and external stakeholders

At the Treasury, we pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and understand the importance of fostering a working environment where excellence is recognised and where staff are encouraged to develop their own talents and potential.  The Treasury values diversity amongst its employees and encourages a positive work life balance.

Applications close - Sunday 30 June. All applications must be made online.
