Job Description

What you will do

Our Financial Advisors provide expert financial and business advice to military and civilian managers to ensure the best use of taxpayer funds. Financial Advisors coordinate planning, monitoring, forecasting and budgeting activities for assigned Portfolios, and are a key interface between NZDF Finance and NZDF's Services.

Financial Advisors work with a high degree of autonomy, and are expected to represent the Finance function with maturity and credibility.  Therefore, we are seeking someone who is both technically sound and has the ability to interact effectively with middle and senior-ranked leaders.

What we need

Ideally, you will be CA or CPA qualified (or close to completion), supported with practical experience working in financial and/or management accounting, with a relevant tertiary qualification. Your working knowledge and ability to apply relevant standards, principles, policies, statutes and regulations will be valuable skills, as will your ability to communicate technical financial information effectively to non-financial audiences.

Your expertise in software packages will include an office productivity suite such as MS Office, with a minimum of intermediate level expertise in Microsoft Excel.  This will also include experience with a major ERP package such as SAP or Oracle, and experience with a reporting or budgeting tool such as TM1 is desirable.

Who we are

Financial Advisory are part of the Service Delivery team within NZDF Finance. The Finance Service Delivery team provide financial advice and business decision support to budget holders and committees/forums with financial governance responsibilities. We are organised into Business Partner, Financial Advisor and Performance Reporting teams and work together to provide finance business partnering, performance analysis, management reporting, budgeting and forecasting support, `deep dive' financial assessment and strategic financial input to NZDF.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Why Us

This is your opportunity to bring your passion, knowledge and experience to NZDF's Finance Team.  In return for your knowledge, experience and drive, we can reward you with challenging opportunities working in a supportive, motivated and forward-thinking team based in central Wellington. This position offers career opportunities and variety.

Check out the great benefits for you and your family when you join NZDF!
