Job Description

Chief Advisor – Programmes

  • Provide expert programme management advice
  • Work closely with the Commissioner
  • Build effective relationships across key environmental sectors

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment is an Officer of Parliament. Supported by a team of investigative researchers and policy professionals, the Commissioner's primary role is to give independent advice to Parliament on environmental matters. Key aspects include reviewing the system of environmental agencies and government processes and investigating the effectiveness of environmental management. The effectiveness of the Commissioner's advice depends to a large degree on the independence, integrity and quality of the work undertaken by the highly skilled team of advisors within his Office.

Forming part of the senior leadership team, the Chief Advisor Programmes is a newly created role to provide management oversight of the Commissioner's investigative work programme. The appointee will advise the Commissioner on the policy, societal and community implications of environmental work programmes at a strategic level, and engage and build relationships with external stakeholders from the commercial, environmental and government sectors.

To be effective in this key role, you will have proven experience of operating and advising at a senior executive level. You will be a strategic thinker and display intellectual capacity. You will be service-focussed and have a strong communication ability. As well as possessing advanced tertiary qualifications, you will have a background which includes research, public policy and (ideally) environmental issues. You must be comfortable engaging widely with stakeholders and be able to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
