Senior Policy Advisor

Police National Headquarters, Wellington

Permanent, Full Time

9 Months Fixed Term

Salary Range $92,940.00 - $169,280.00

Job Requisition 10403

The New Zealand Police Policy and Partnerships Group provides advice on a remarkable and fascinating range of policy issues, from vulnerable children, family harm, firearms, serious criminal offending, organised crime and money laundering, to drug policy, transport safety, national security, emergency management and terrorism. The diversity of our business makes for an interesting, varied and challenging range of policy opportunities in the sectors we span. Our work genuinely affects New Zealanders every day.

We offer a fast-paced work environment providing Minister facing policy advice informed by direct exposure to the frontline perspective offered by an operational agency. Our main aims are to reduce crime and improve public safety and our work is delivered by four permanent policy teams (National Security and International; Justice; Transport and Crime Prevention). We have also established a temporary Firearms Policy team to deliver an ambitious work programme following the 15 March Christchurch terror attacks.

We are seeking motivated professionals to contribute to the delivery of a substantial work programme in 2019 and beyond. This comprises a significant legislative programme, including amendments to the Arms Act 1983 and the Policing Act 2008, as well as other critical policy work, largely in partnership with other agencies.

We have a number of permanent and fixed-term opportunities across the Group for experienced, enthusiastic problem solvers at the Senior Advisor and Advisor level who want to make a difference.

Fixed-term positions will be up to 9 months. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in a permanent or temporary position.
