Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Parliamentary Officer (Parliamentary Relations) to join our Customer Service and Parliamentary Engagement team.

Providing advice on inter-parliamentary relations and supporting New Zealand parliamentarians' engagement with other Parliaments, you will be stepping into an environment unlike any other. The New Zealand Parliament has long supported capacity building and strengthening parliaments in the Pacific, and this role is dedicated to enhancing and implementing this work.

This role would be responsible for developing a long term programme to:

  • deliverer technical assistance, parliamentary procedural support and resource development for Pacific parliaments
  • deliver study missions, exchanges and events for Pacific parliamentarians
  • provide the secretariat services for the Pacific Public Accounts Network, and the Pacific Legislatures Network
  • monitor and measure this work, reporting on effectiveness.

You will have a strong understanding of parliamentary processes and New Zealand's foreign policy, particularly in the Pacific region. You have a willingness to learn and develop detailed knowledge of the issues and processes involved in organising parliamentary conferences and hosting guests of Parliament. It goes without saying you are someone who feels comfortable travelling abroad and has a strong understanding of English grammar to prepare concise, clear reports and papers. Experience in programme management and development work would be a real advantage.

So what do you think? If you'd like to play an important role in supporting our Parliament, apply now.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week.

To apply for this job, please go to our job site https://careers.parliament.govt.nz/home and enter the job code 21282GJ.
