Looking for a strategic leadership role? 

 

We're looking for someone who can represent The New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa (Customs) across a range of interagency fora supporting engagement between the wider New Zealand national security system and Customs' operational areas and business groups.

 

The New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa (Customs) protects and promotes Aotearoa New Zealand through world class border management.  Customs is responsible for protecting New Zealand against threats that target our borders, facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods and collecting customs and excise revenue on behalf of the Crown.  Click to see examples of the work that we do.

 

We are looking for

  • Strong stakeholder management skills - including the ability to determine your stakeholders, develop and maintain successful working relationships with them.
  • Well-honed problem solving and decision-making skills; the ability to implement innovative solutions and manage or mitigate risks taking immediate and longer term consequences into account.
  • An excellent knowledge of the conventions, structure and functions of Government and their relationship to the work of Customs and the machinery of Government will enable you to confidently step in to the role. You will need to demonstrate a high level of understanding of the complexities of the national security system.

 

The role…

In our Intelligence, Investigations and Enforcement group leading the six analysts in the Strategic Coordination Unit, you will need strong leadership skills and experience in people management. This includes a demonstrated capability to manage employment issues and promote change in challenging environments utilising relationship and problem solving skills.

 

Joining Customs…

 To work for the New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa, you must be:

A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application;

OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA.

 

You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.

 

You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. To be successful, you need to either currently hold and maintain or obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

 

Due to the nature of Customs work you must have a clear Police record.  Successful applicants are also required to pass a medical assessment and drug test and must hold a full NZ Drivers' licence."
