Job Description

We have 12-18 month fixed term positions available! Secondment arrangements will also be considered.

The New Zealand Customs Service protects and promotes New Zealand through world class border management. We promote New Zealand's international trade, collect Crown revenue, and enforce the law by identifying and seizing prohibited imports and exports. We also make sure that lawful travellers and items can move across our border as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Our Māori name - Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa - translates as "the authority that screens and protects New Zealand".

We are looking for experienced Policy Analysts/Senior Policy Analysts to join our policy team. This is a fast paced and exciting environment where you will develop and provide advice to Ministers, and work collaboratively with other agencies, on a variety of issues related to the border. You may for example, be working on international policy or policies related to cross-border offending.

We are interested in hearing from policy analysts or senior policy analysts who can demonstrate good communication, analysis and critical thinking skills. You will have a solid understanding of the machinery of government, be able to work under pressure, and work well in a team.

A background in public policy, law, accounting, economics or a related discipline would be an advantage.

Applicants must have a New Zealand Permanent Residency or Citizenship and be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and pass a drug test.   These roles will be based in the Wellington Customhouse. Please submit a CV and cover letter that clearly demonstrates your ability to meet the skills and competencies required for the role.

New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa is a member of Diversity Works New Zealand and is committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace.  We provide equal employment opportunities, consider flexible working arrangements and welcome applications from everyone who can meet the requirements of the role.

For further information about this role, please view the position description attached. Any other information can be obtained by contacting Suzanne Leahy by email on: Suzanne.leahy@customs.govt.nz

Applications close 5pm on Tuesday 23 July 2019.
