Job Description

What you will do

The purpose of the Naval Occupational Safety and Health Section is to promote a healthy and safe working environment and minimise the burden of injuries, occupational illnesses and environmental pollution.

This position is directly responsible for administrative and secretarial support for Naval Occupational Health & Safety activities. This includes the lodgement and progression of maritime related safety events and other notifications into the NZDF and RNZN Safety Reporting System.

What we need

We are seeking a person with a strong practical foundation in administrative and secretarial support, preferably within a technical environment. You will have the opportunity to not only grow within this role but to also grow the role to take on different dimensions to meet the operational outputs of the role.

As this is a coordination role you will need to be super organised with exceptional time management skills.  It's essential that you are a confident communicator who is happy to develop strong working relationships both internal and external to the business.

It would be great if you have a general understanding of legislative requirements including: Health and Safety at Work Act Notifiable Event definition, Privacy Act 1993, Health Information Privacy Code 1994.

Even better if you have a good level of competency in statistical analysis and trend reporting combined with practical knowledge of and experience in Word, Excel, Visio, Publisher.

You will be joining a small and supportive team who are passionate about the work they do and how they contribute to the wider organisation.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
