Salary: $106,000 to $150,000

About Crown LawCrown Law provides legal advice and representation to the Government of New Zealand in the areas of criminal, public and administrative law. As the kaitiaki of the rule of law, we support the Solicitor-General and Attorney-General to determine the Crown's view of the law. We also provide leadership for the networks of Crown Solicitors, public prosecuting agencies and in-house Government lawyers.

About the role

In this establishment role, you will provide support for the General Manager, Operational Services in implementing a professional business improvement culture. You will drive new initiatives and grow leaders across the Operational Services Group, and particularly within your team, to develop their skills in continuous improvement. You will be coming into an organisation that is re-setting how it provides legal support services away from transactional service delivery to a business partnering approach. You will have the opportunity to help design how the team operates, and then lead the delivery of a service model that provides consistently great service.

You will have four direct reports and a team of over 20 staff who are responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of litigation support services. This includes discovery, dedicated administrative assistance on litigation and other complex matters, and the administrative coordination of criminal appeal cases. You will build strong relationships with Counsel, Strategy and Corporate staff and Legal Support teams to ensure end-to-end support services for legal counsel and litigation matters.

The job title for this role is Litigation Enablement Manager. This position is a member of the Operational Services Leadership team.

About you

The ideal appointee will have the following skills, qualities and experience:

  • A proven people leader in an operational environment
  • Strong practitioner experience in process improvement or similar, including designing processes and modelling, analysis, improving workflow and delivering results
  • Experience designing and implementing improvement initiatives at both strategic and operational levels
  • Proven experience managing to deadlines, leading teams to produce high quality and accurate outputs
  • A proven communicator who can persuade and influence at senior levels
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and accreditation in a business improvement methodology such as Lean Six Sigma are highly desirable

Knowledge and experience of legal environments would be an advantage, but is not essential. Being a demonstrably great people leader is the most important requirement.
