Job Description

Be part of our intelligence hub, identifying risks to our border - and help stop threats from reaching our shores.

New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa protects and promotes Aotearoa New Zealand through world class border management. Customs has a large programme of work underway to target transnational organised crime for overseas sources to our front line and keep illicit drugs, and the harm they cause in our communities, out of New Zealand. These roles support that work.

We're looking for people to join Customs and move into specialised offshore disruption analyst roles supporting our work disrupting transnational organised crime.

You'll be part of our Intelligence, Investigations and Enforcement (II&E) group, where you'll help increase our capability to engage with both the domestic and international intelligence communities, to disrupt the supply chain of illicit goods  offshore.  You'll work collaboratively with other national and international agencies in the intelligence community.

You'll have strong analytical skills with an enquiring mind. You'll be adept in applying the Intelligence Cycle, and build intelligence and insights to help us identify and act on risks before they cross the border. You'll have excellent attention to detail and sound judgement, analysing and interpreting data and then creating concise reports enabling us to target threats early.

These jobs are based in Auckland and will generally be within regular hours Monday to Friday. You will be working with a supportive and diverse team.

As this is an Intelligence Analyst role, you won't be on the frontline or directly involved with enforcement.  You will need to have good computer skills, and be a strong communicator comfortable briefing others at all levels. You will write clear and concise reports, and have a full understanding of information security principles (classifications, caveats, handling and dissemination of information).

We're looking for people who care about their team and work well with others - you're approachable, supportive and willing to help. This is a Senior Customs Officer role, which provides a pathway to diverse Customs career opportunities as you build your experience and skills.

We support flexible working arrangements, so we invite you to talk with us about how we can work with you in achieving your flexible working goals, within our operational requirements.

The starting salary range for this role is approximately $68,000-$79,000.
