Job Description

  • Central Wellington location
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 9% superannuation

ACC's vision is to create a unique partnership with every New Zealander, improving their quality of life by minimising the incidence and impact of injury. The Senior Solicitor Litigation is responsible for the provision of specialist litigation advice and services to ACC. This includes supervision and oversight of the work of Solicitors and engagement and management of external Lawyers.

As a Business Partner to allocated areas of the business this role maintains oversight of customer needs and issues to ensure legal services are provided effectively and efficiently.

This role does not involve Court appearances. Litigation background is however essential as the role requires supervision and oversight of Court proceedings. The role would be ideal for litigators or other lawyers with litigation background who wish to move to a less stressful environment while remaining involved in Court work through steering and supervising litigation.

What you need to be successful:

  • LLB and current New Zealand Law Society practising certificate or eligibility to hold one
  • Ideally at least 10 years' post qualification experience, including at least seven years' experience conducting or managing litigation
  • Ability to critically analyse evidence in the context of civil litigation, with a focus on medical and other expert evidence
  • Ability to work across all levels of an organisation
  • Proven strategic perspective, keeping overall objectives and strategies in mind, and not being deflected from these when dealing with matters of detail
  • Experience briefing (in writing and in person) at senior management level
  • IT literacy relevant to legal service provision
  • Experience coaching and mentoring Junior Lawyers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement litigation strategies.
