Job Description

Finance and Technology
Palmerston North

For more than 80 years, Massey University has helped shape the lives and communities of people in New Zealand and around the world. Its forward-thinking spirit, research-led teaching, and cutting-edge discoveries make Massey New Zealand's defining university.

ITS is responsible for the provision, maintenance and support of information and communication technology for staff and students at Massey University. Spanning three campuses; Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington, we currently employ over 3,500 people, both full and part-time. Approximately 18,000 students are enrolled across those campuses, with an additional 17,000 students enrolled as national and worldwide distance learning (extramural) students.

Our Applications Support team is seeking an additional Senior Systems Engineer specialising in Linux with a focus on automation and configuration management. In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for the support and maintenance of foundation University IT systems (including DHCP, DNS and Middleware applications) delivered across multiple campuses.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated critical thinker, with excellent customer service skills, and have a good understanding of configuration management and automation tools (such as Puppet and Jenkins).

You will also need to be familiar with ISC BIND (DNS) and ISC DHCP Server, Apache Tomcat and open source based databases including PostgreSQL and MySQL. Experience with supporting containers (Docker, e.g.) and Windows Server would be advantageous.

Ideally you will have experience supporting large-scale applications in tertiary education or a similar complex environment.
