Job Description

  • Permanent role based in Timaru (hours per week/FTE negotiable)
  • Previous experience in community based or health promotion projects
  • Strong knowledge of Tikanga Māori and excellent written and verbal communication skills

Our Community and Public Health team in Timaru is looking for a leader and educator who will be responsible for Health Promotion within our Māori communities.

We have a great team with a broad focus on improving the health of the population of South Canterbury, while working with specific projects and communities.

The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Working primarily with Māori communities and with the WAVE Team (focussed on education settings) to improve Māori health and reduce health inequalities
  • Building relationships with Iwi, hapū and whānau
  • Participate in Planning and Implementation of projects as decided by with wider team
  • Work in partnership with āori to deliver health promotion programs
  • Provide Health Promotion advice and support to internal and external stakeholders

Your skills will include the following:

  • An awareness of the health, educational and social environment that services operate in, and the ability to identify opportunities within this environment
  • A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working bi-culturally as well as basic Te Reo would be advantageous
  • Previous experience in community based or health promotion projects is essential
  • Pre-established connections across the South Canterbury Māori community is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of Tikanga Māori and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A current driver's licence is required for this role
