The Department of Corrections has an incredibly diverse asset portfolio of $2.8b across NZ and is undertaking significant investment in addressing capacity and enabling new ways of working to achieve its strategic objectives of keeping communities safe and changing lives.

Building and further developing the Department's Asset Management capability will integrate long term planning, investment, asset maintenance and project delivery. As a result of this transformation to strengthen our strategic Asset Management and delivery capability, a large number of new roles and teams have been created.

The huge variety, scale and complexity of projects you will be exposed to will enhance your professional skills and really allow you to demonstrate your commercial acumen. As Senior Project Manager you will manage complex high end value projects through inception, design and construction within time, quality and budget. You will also

  • Ensure projects are aligned with the Project Delivery team programme's overall objectives
  • Drive supplier, contractor and consultant engagement and performance to meet design standards, project milestones and legislative and regulatory requirements;
  • Proactively identify and effectively manage project risks, applying your keen professional judgement to “get things done”.
  • Play an active role in mentoring team members and driving through improvements on processes and systems to create a high performing team.


To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years project management experience in assets, property or construction disciplines
  • Experience managing large scale, high risk and complex assets or construction projects
  • Exceptional relationship management skills and proven success in engaging executive leadership teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to negotiate and drive to achieve results
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and act decisively to ensure delivery
  • Understands and applies best practice project management methodologies
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

The salary range for this role is $114,942 to $162,270. Appointment will be based on skills and experience relevant to the role.
