The Department of Corrections has an incredibly diverse asset portfolio of $2.8b across NZ and is undertaking significant investment in addressing capacity and enabling new ways of working to achieve its strategic objectives of keeping communities safe and changing lives.

Building and further developing the Department's Asset Management capability will integrate long term planning, investment, asset maintenance and project delivery. As a result of this transformation to strengthen our strategic Asset Management and delivery capability, a large number of new roles and teams have been created.

The huge variety, scale and complexity of projects you will be exposed to will enhance your professional skills and really allow you develop your commercial acumen. As Assistant Project Manager you will manage discrete projects and work packages yourself and also assist on larger complex or high risk projects which could cover construction, fit outs and refurbishments or complex infrastructure projects.
You will also:

  • Provide support to Project Managers, engaging with contractors, suppliers and consultants to meet design standards, project milestones and legislative and regulatory requirements;
  • Assist and / or prepare project budgets, monitoring or governance reports and other project management products
  • Proactively identify and effectively manage project risks, developing your professional skills supported by Project team members to “get things done” to ensure quality delivery.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing improvements on processes and systems as part of building a high performing team.
  • Manage contract variations

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience

  • Experience project managing a variety of property related projects including some exposure to more complex assets or construction projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to negotiate and drive to achieve results
  • Ability to anticipate future consequences and identify courses of action to ensure delivery
  • Understands and applies best practice project management methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to negotiate and influence
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

The salary range for this role is $ 82,160 to $ 115,990. Appointment will be based on skills and experience relevant to the role.
