Job Description

Senior Advisor - Oranga Tamariki

Date: 11-Jul-2019

Location: Wellington, NZ

Company: Oranga Tamariki

Senior Advisor - National Provider and Services

About us:
Oranga Tamariki-The Ministry for Children is dedicated to supporting any child in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future. We also work with young people who may have offended, or are likely to offend. Our belief is that in the right environment, with the right people surrounding and nurturing them, any child can, and should flourish.

About the team:
The National Provider and Services (NPS) team is a part of the wider Partnership Team, which is responsible for high quality relationship management of a portfolio of 40 Non-Government Organisations (NGOs). Some of those provider relationships are led by experienced partnership managers with the support of the NPS team.  The remainder of the provider relationships are managed directly by the NPS team members. Your work, and the work of the wider team, will ensure our partnerships with our social service partners are aligned to the overall strategy of Oranga Tamariki.

Reporting to the Team Leader National Providers and Services, you will use your contract management expertise to maintain and develop the relationships we have with a group of contracted national service providers to ensure they can help us meet the needs of the tamariki and whānau we work with.  You will provide professional guidance to others within the NPS team to ensure best-practice contract management at Oranga Tamariki. You will also have the opportunity to lead programmes and projects that aim to maximise better outcomes from the services we fund.  Of critical importance will be your ability to work collaboratively and proactively across a dynamic team, and be focussed on the experience of children and their families.

About the role:
Apply your ability to facilitate relationships with Māori and other non-government service providers, to help meet the needs of the tamariki and whānau we work with.
•    Work with providers to identify and maximise their contribution to improving outcomes for tamariki and their whānau
•    Develop and implement best practice contracting and monitoring processes
•    Provide professional guidance, training and leadership or mentoring to Advisors in the team
•    Provide support to specific Oranga Tamariki programmes and projects
You will have extensive skills and experience from operating at a senior level and can demonstrate:
•    Proven successful experience of contract management, negotiation and monitoring at a senior level
•    Strong understanding of the machinery of Government and political awareness
•    Comprehensive understanding of key issues affecting contracting services in a social services environment
•    Proven successful experience in working with service providers at a community level
•    Proven successful experience and in-depth knowledge of risk assessment

If you can exercise good judgement and sound decision making skills whilst keeping an open mind and the flexibility to think outside the square, then one of these roles may be the next step for you. You must be able to confidently interact at all levels of Government, NGOs, Community, Iwi/Maori and Pacific peoples organisations.
