We are looking for curious and determined people to join our Statistical Methods branch. Our statisticians support the production of official statistics through researching, developing and implementing methods; and providing advice to teams producing the statistics. We have a growing work programme, and you could be working on projects or support to Stats NZ s economic, environmental, household or population statistics; or developing new ways to compile statistics using administrative data and models.

Who are we looking for? 

We are hiring at 2 levels.  

For the Statistical and Data analysts we are looking for:

  • A university degree with a major or high component of mathematics, statistics, data science or related subjects
  • Experience using statistical software e.g. R to extract and analyse data, and the ability to pick up new tools quickly
  • The ability to advise on statistical methods and calculations, and recommend and implement improvements
  • The ability to communicate technical information in plain English
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships

For Design analysts (Methodologists) we are looking for the above, plus:

  • 2 3 years practical experience resolving conceptually and technically challenging problems
  • Advanced experience using statistical software e.g. R
  • Experience in understanding customer requirements and translating them in practical terms
  • Experience mentoring and training other analysts
  • The ability to provide guidance on end to end service delivery and process workflows

Statistical and Data analyst salaries start at $65,969 and Design analyst salaries start at $75,721.
