Job Description

  •  Secondment or fixed term opportunity
  • Senior Analyst
  • Workforce and Workplace team, Evidence and Insights Branch
  • Labour Market focus

About the role:

One of our team members has been offered an opportunity elsewhere in government for a year.  As a result we are looking for someone to work with us, either on secondment or for a one year fixed term.

Our team of ten is responsible for analysing labour market data and for conducting research into contemporary issues such as employment relations, underutilisation, skills matching, regional labour market dynamics, and wage determination processes.  This work is undertaken to inform policy developments and interventions; and to improve labour market functioning in New Zealand.

In this role you will be working with others to analyse evidence and data that strengthens our understanding and awareness of labour market issues. You will be a natural relationship manager, with the ability to work with policy and operational staff and external stakeholders. You will also have a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement and generating new ideas and ways of doing things; and be able to disseminate research findings and analysis in ways that are accessible to a non-technical audience.

Skills and Experience:

We are keen to hear from you if you have:

  • A background in current labour market policy issues or labour market statistics
  • Some knowledge of either data analysis or qualitative research and evaluation methodologies
  • The ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to develop trust and credibility with senior managers, staff and key internal and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • Exceptional teamwork and collaborative abilities
  • Highly developed communication and writing skills
  • A strong customer focus.

Why work for us:

MBIE is one of New Zealand's largest, most influential and most diverse public sector agencies.  This means that we are able to offer significant opportunities for developing experience across a broad variety of areas.

We aim to create a culture where our people are empowered to bring fresh ideas and perspectives and to develop new approaches.

We also take the time to foster a work environment that is enjoyable for all.  This means we like to collaborate, support and encourage our people, encourage excellence and innovation and take the time to have some fun and celebrate our successes.

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or New Zealand permanent residents.
