Job Description

Are you an experienced Executive Assistant who wants to work in the fast paced and dynamic environment of our New Zealand Parliament?

Kiritapu Allan, List MP based in the East Coast, is looking for a Parliamentary Executive Assistant to join her team. The role is Wellington based and is 40 hours a week. Some flexibility in hours may be required, particularly when The House is sitting.

The successful applicant for this role will be an experienced admin and multi-tasking superstar. On a daily basis, you could be doing anything from diary management, travel arrangements, managing budgets and expenses, to helping with press releases, planning and coordinating functions and events, greeting visitors, providing research, prepping your MP for Select Committee and The House or answering correspondence and invitations. You'll work closely with the staff that your MP has in her Gisborne and Whaktāne offices. You'll be responsible for making sure that your MP is where she needs to be and with what she needs for that meeting, committee or event. Kiritapu Allan is the Junior Government Whip and you'll provide administrative support for this role. This is a busy role and a rewarding one.

You'll have an understanding of the political landscape and a knack for taking everything in your stride. Things are changeable here so an appreciation for the environment and the ability to be calm, proactive, and flexible will stand you in good stead. You'll need to think on your feet. You'll be confident in developing strong relationships built on trust and mutual respect. Ideally, you'll have an understanding of te ao Māori and tikanga.

Rest assured, you'll be stepping into a role and an environment that is very unique indeed. One that is hugely rewarding and exciting with the chance to be at the heart of it all. You'll be part of a high trust environment and you're there to offer unconditional support to your MP.

As an organisation, it's extremely important to us that our people feel supported and are given the opportunity to continue to grow and develop their knowledge and their careers.

This role is for 40 hours per week. Some flexibility in hours may be required, particularly when the House is sitting. This is an events-based, fixed-term role linked to the Member of Parliament.

If you'd like to play an important behind-the-scenes part in helping our MPs work for New Zealand, apply now.
