Job Description

  • Are you new to policy or looking for an opportunity to broaden your skills and experience
  • Work on topical issues that have impacts across New Zealand
  • 12 month fixed term opportunity (secondment cover)

We have a great opportunity for an advisor to join this exciting, high performing and tight knit team for the duration of 12 months.  The New Zealand Government Procurement and Property (NZGPP) Branch is engaged in an ambitious programme to improve procurement capability and commercial outcomes across New Zealand government.

We have a programme of policy work that considers the role that procurement can have on important issues like modern slavery and climate change and how it can contribute to a more inclusive and productive New Zealand.

We are seeking an individual with experience of applying policy principles in a number of projects, strong stakeholder management and communications skills, a track record of problem solving and formulating high quality advice, particularly in highly ambiguous situations.

We are looking for a talented person with the following attributes:

  • Naturally curious and like to question the status quo.
  • Interested in regulatory issues, exposure to Ministers and how Cabinet and Parliament work.
  • Ability to set priorities, deliver project outputs and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working across multiple policy projects.
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative way

As a Policy Advisor, you will bring excellent analytical skills with the ability to provide clear, accurate, well-reasoned policy advice that is targeted to the audience by using your strong written and oral communication skills.  You will take ownership and action on challenges, working collaboratively with others.  You are all about making a positive contribution to the team.
