Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori

Revitalisation of te reo Māori is at the heart of what we do here at Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori.  Our mission is to give effect to the status of te reo Māori as an official language, to promote te reo Māori as an ordinary means of communication and as a living language, and to lead the coordination of the implementation of Te Maihi Karauna.

We aim to create an environment where iwi and Māori through Te Maihi Māori can succeed and  where the State Sector, private sector and wider community organisations are enabled to help revitalise te reo Māori.  We want all New Zealanders to value the Māori language as part of who we are, what makes us a nation and is a living language for everyone to enjoy and celebrate – everywhere, every way, everyone and every day.

We are looking for people with the strategic drive and passion for te reo Māori and come join us in leading the coordination of implementing Te Maihi Karauna (Crown Māori Language Strategy).

Director Partnerships and Promotions (Permanent)

This role is a member of the Senior Leadership team and leads and manages the Ohu responsible for communications, promotions, market analysis, resource development and sponsorship which contributes to the revitalisation of te reo Māori for all New Zealanders.

You will have a primary responsibility to ensure Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori communications and promotional activities align and support the Government's language strategy called Te Maihi Karauna.  Furthermore, you will provide a strategic focus towards communication and promotional leadership to support decision making of the Chief Executive and the Board.

To apply for this role you will need senior management experience with demonstrated abilities to build and lead successful teams.  You will have in-depth knowledge in strategic communications and event management and a proven record of accomplishment in successfully developing and leading the implementation of Kaupapa Māori strategies in organisations, ideally in a public sector environment.

You will have experience in building and sustaining strategic partnerships and the ability to set high standards to deliver successful results.  You will also need sound understanding of key issues affecting Māori Language development and regeneration.

The ability to speak te reo Māori and be a practitioner in tikanga is essential.
