Job Description

Part-time (15 hours per week)

The Protocol Support Officer provides support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Protocol Division in the area of diplomatic and consular privileges and immunities.

This role is at an intern-equivalent level and is remunerated accordingly. It would suit a current tertiary student with an interest in international relations.

Specific tasks include:

  • Manage and process departure documentation for foreign diplomats, including updating internal records, updating the official Diplomatic and Consular List on the MFAT website and filing;
  • Process domestic student status applications;
  • Process car forms for foreign diplomats applying for and removing diplomatic licence plates;
  • Assist Protocol Advisers with calculating and processing rates refunds for diplomatic missions/posts;
  • General research for members of Protocol Division

Applicants should be able to demonstrate very close attention to detail, excellent IT skills including competence in the use of Microsoft Excel, and the ability to work methodically in close coordination with a team. An understanding of the basic principles of privacy law and government processes would be desirable.
