Youth Worker

Full time, Permanent, Auckland Region

 

Be part of a newly created response team who are fully committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people, whānau and the community. We are a Ministry with a commitment to putting rangatahi and their whānau at the heart of everything we do and say. As a Youth Worker for our  Auckland Youth Justice Team, you will provide support services for our rangatahi and whānau on our newly created response team.  

 

To do well in this role you need: 

  • Experience caring for or mentoring youth
  • A current, full, clean New Zealand drivers licence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Resilience with the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong cultural awareness and Understanding of Te Ao Māori me ona Tikanga
  • Ability to quickly establish relationships with stakeholders and maintain those relationships
  • Experience with developing appropriate programmes and initiatives that would best suit our rangatahi, whānau, stakeholders and community
  • The right to work in New Zealand
  • Ability to work Saturday and Sundays with flexible week day hours

 

Some of the duties include:
  • Regular face to face contact with rangatahi and whānau
  • Maintaining and building stakeholder relationships in the Whangarei community
  • Mentoring – one on one work with rangatahi, whānau to assist them to achieve their identified goals
  • Supporting rangatahi with their educational aspirations
  • Keeping our rangatahi and whānau connected to their wider whānau, iwi and hapu
  • Flexibility to work in different workplace settings e.g. marae, school or field trips
  • Transporting of rangatahi and whānau to and from activities or appointments
  • Minding – looking after rangatahi
