Job Description

  • Three roles available
  • Wellington and/or Christchurch
  • Permanent roles

Who we are?

At Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa, our vision is to unleash the power of data to change lives.  As New Zealand s official data and statistics agency, we are tasked with leading the way for New Zealand s data future, enabling data-led innovation across society, the economy, and the environment.

We are looking for curious and determined people to transform our data to more useable, value-adding states so we can use it in statistical production processes. The work varies from data entry, data sourcing, classifying, validating, processing, coding, checking, shaping… but it s so much more than that. You will get to look at interesting subject matter that most New Zealanders wouldn t ever contemplate, but that reveals so much about the world we live in.

The three available roles are in the following teams:

Business Prices Delivery Prices, Accommodation, and Construction Unit

The Business Prices Delivery team is responsible for producing critical information about the prices involved in doing business in New Zealand and with the rest of the world. The team s deliverables include the Overseas Trade Index, the Labour Cost Index, and the prices paid and received by NZ producers. The team s work sits at the heart of NZ s core macroeconomic statistics and supports the production of the Balance of Payments and GDP.

 Labour Market and Household Statistics

Labour Market and Household Statistics covers a large number of topic areas to do with people and how they live their lives. This ranges from work, income, wealth to wellbeing, culture and social connectedness.  We are responsible for the delivery of a range of statistical products, such as Labour Market Statistics, Injury Statistics, Child Poverty Statistics, and Wellbeing Statistics. Our data and statistics are used in a variety of ways, from informing Official Cash Rate decision-making, to informing the 2019 Wellbeing Budget, to holding a mirror up to New Zealand society.

Expenditure and Sector Accounts, National Accounts

The Expenditure and Sector Accounts (ESA team), which sits within the National Accounts unit, has three main functions, producing estimates about New Zealand s non-financial assets; government financial statistics including income, expenditure, and nonfinancial assets for central and local government; and statistics on institutional sector accounts, which provide a different view of New Zealand s economy.
