Job Description

MERCHANDISING COORDINATOR

Te Papa is looking for a Merchandising Coordinator to join our truly iconic New Zealand institution. Te Papa's mission is to understand the past, enrich the present, and meet the challenges of the future. Te Papa is more than just the national museum that houses New Zealand's treasures. It is a meeting place, a place for lifelong learning, and a place that inspires a sense of wonder and connection.

The Merchandising Coordinator will report directly to the General Manager Te Papa Stores, and will coordinate the supply and promotion of high quality merchandise across all Te Papa retail stores. The Merchandising Coordinator manages the merchandising inventory system, supports the GM Te Papa Stores and drives sales through the design, development and set up of product displays that are visually appealing to visitors and by collaborating with and transferring supplier and merchandise knowledge to the retail team.

  • At least 2 years of experience in merchandising or retail, preferably in a comparable environment
  • Knowledge of the retail industry, in particular, gift retail
  • An excellent knowledge of local retail products and suppliers
  • Well-honed relationship building and management skills, particularly with suppliers
  • Proven organisation skills and attention to detail when it comes maintaining high levels of merchandising appeal
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to produce results
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable but not essential

All applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand and the ability to maintain that.
