Job Description

Kaiatawhai - Oranga Tamariki

An exciting opportunity in Oranga Tamariki for the right person to be part of new initiatives to support mokopuna Māori and their whānau carers in our new Ministry.

 

This role, based in Blenheim, will support our partnership with Māori Women's Welfare League and iwi to support whānau carers who are caring for tamariki from within their whānau, hapu and iwi, with a goal of providing a nurturing environment for tamariki to reach their full potential.

 

 

What will you do?

The person will be responsible for leading a coordinated approach to implement a plan developed at whānau hui or family Group Conference, linking whānau to supports within the community, encouraging whānau to attend training and community programs supporting carers, reconnecting whānau to tribal / cultural connections and registration with iwi to ensure access to supports and resources. It is important to put this support in early as we believe this can prevent the need for further intervention from Oranga Tamariki and strengthen relationships within whānau.

 

We are looking for a person with commitment to best outcomes for mokopuna and excellent communication skills.

We hope to hear from you If you believe you have the following qualities and skills:
  • the ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • proven successful experience in working with iwi and community
  • connection to marae, iwi and community
  • established community knowledge and networks
  • experience in supporting whānau either professional or voluntary
  • understanding of whakapapa and tikanga

 

And can demonstrate:

  • competence and flexibility in working with children, young people and their family, whānau, hapu, Iwi or family group
  • the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner
  • ability to manage conflict
  • an understanding of child development and the effects of trauma
  • understanding of the dynamics of family relationships and self-care
  • a current, clean driving licence is essential
