Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. The role of our organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience. Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them, now and in the future. Volunteers now make up over 80% of our personnel.

The Safety, Health and Wellbeing team is responsible for the following:

  • Assuring Fire and Emergency New Zealand meets its legislative and moral responsibility towards health, safety and wellbeing
  • Assuring that our practices mean that "Everyone goes home safe and well every time"
  • Identifying needs, and developing, implementing and evaluating programmes and services in collaboration with all our stakeholders, internal and external
  • Actively promoting participation in safety health and wellbeing initiatives, you will provide coaching and mentoring to enable continued development of a positive and all-encompassing safety culture

About you

You will have a relevant safety, health and wellbeing background with a strong collaborative approach to your working style, including the ability to influence others to achieve positive safety, health and wellbeing outcomes.

You have wide ranging technical knowledge, with a particular strength/specialty in one of the safety, health or wellbeing disciplines of the role. You are a problem solver who delivers practical solutions whilst being flexible and adaptable in adjusting your style to work effectively with different people. There can be times when the workload will be high so the ability to work well under pressure is a must

We are looking for a professional with the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Workplace Safety Health and Wellbeing or equivalent skills and experience
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and related Regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ACC Accredited Employer Programme
  • Ability to interact professionally, educate and influence with a diverse group of colleagues
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and conducting meetings, workshops and training sessions.
  • Experience in coordinating workplace psychological wellbeing programmes
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility for regional travel and work outside of normal business hours is a must
  • Current full driver's licence

The remuneration range for this position is $82,490 - $91,655.
