New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for reducing crime and enhancing community safety. We work in partnership with individuals, communities, businesses and other public sector agencies to achieve our vision to have the trust and confidence of all.


The New Zealand Police vetting services are seeking to appoint multiple Vetting Officers based at The Police National Headquarters (PNHQ), Wellington.


We are looking for motivated individuals who enjoy working independently and analysing information to support the delivery of the National Operations Group outcomes. The Vetting Officer will contribute to Police strategies to reduce offending and victimisation by processing vetting applications for external agencies and contributing to the integrity of Police intelligence systems.


Hours of work are Monday to Friday on a rotating eight hours shift system comprising day hours (worked between 0600 to 1800) and approximately 5 late shifts per 4 week period (hours currently set at 1300 - 2100). The roster system may be subject to change for operational requirements.


Skills and Experience - you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to perform quality data entry with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate an ability to analyse information and draw appropriate conclusions in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate experience working with Microsoft office in a work or study setting
  • Determining the relevance (and potential risks identified) of information that is being analysed
  • Ability to identify and verify key facts from large quantities of information, and summarise this information succinctly

Special requirements:

  • You will be required to work one week of late shifts per month
  • An understanding of the Privacy Act 1993, Children's Act 2014 and Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004 is an advantage
  • The successful applicants will be required to undergo a full vetting check prior to any offer of employment being made
  • Must have a valid work visa to be eligible for the role


*Please note to be considered for permanent roles with New Zealand Police you must have a Permanent Residency or New Zealand or Australian Citizen.  Applicants who are on work visas or residency visas can be considered for fix term contracts.
