Position Overview

Cybersecurity is an area of significant growth at Massey University and we need your help! Massey University is investing in our digital environment, developing our digital strategy and we have multiple opportunities available.

We have two newly created positions; IT Security Analyst and Senior IT Security Analyst. Working closely together they will play integral roles in shaping the University's future direction by aligning best practice information security practice, developments within cybersecurity, and building our capability to ensure the integrity of our system is upheld and our data is kept safe. Both positions have a great mix of technical and strategic work; with plenty of opportunities and projects to get stuck into.

About Information Technology Services: We are responsible for the provision, maintenance and support of information and communication technology for staff and students at Massey University. Spanning three campuses, Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington, employing over 3,500 people supporting approximately 18,000 students across the campuses, with an additional 17,000 students enrolled via distance learning students. (Nationally and internationally.)

As the IT Security Analyst, working alongside the Senior IT Security Analyst you will become an effective and trusted operator, responsible for the following:

  • Day-to-day operations of the in-place security solutions
  • Identification, investigation, and resolution of security breaches detected by the in-place systems
  • Involvement in the implementation of new security solutions, participation in the creation and or maintenance of policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures
  • Conducting vulnerability audits and risk assessments

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a flexible, self-motivated critical thinker, with excellent customer service skills
  • Have a minimum of three years of previous security operations experience, preferably in an enterprise-scale environment, and it would be desirable if you held a relevant security qualification
  • Possess experience in cloud environments (Azure and AWS)
  • Be familiar working in an ITIL environment and ideally a ITIL foundation certificate
  • Have hands-on experience with endpoint protection, email security, and incident management
  • Have a strong operational focus, be results orientated and deliver under pressure
  • Be a strong ambassador for security, have a positive attitude and a strong customer service focus

It would be advantageous if you:

  • Are familiar working within the New Zealand Protective Security Requirements framework
  • Some understanding of current laws and compliance requirements, as they relate information security
  • Have a good understanding of information risk management
  • Have the ability to translate technical risks into something a non-technical person will understand

This full-time position will be based on our Manawutu campus in Palmerston North.
