Position Overview

Massey University's Printery wishes to appoint a Graphic Designer in a full-time, permanent position. You'll consult directly with customers to establish project requirements; the information received will be converted into print-ready files for production by the in-house printing facility or by commercial agencies.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Meeting with customers on a one-on-one basis to discuss requirements and be responsible for the preparation of the artwork required for the final production of the product or publication
  • Providing job specifications to obtain production cost estimates and develop workable production plans that meet any budget requirements and delivery deadlines. Obtain printing cost estimates from the in-house service and commercial agencies, where appropriate
  • Plan layouts and write printing specifications, which will include paper stocks, binding systems and multi-colour requirements
  • Take work to print-ready stage for both offset and digital printing processes
  • Work closely with internal production staff and external vendors to ensure quality of final product
  • Ensure all administrative requirements of the Design Studio and the Printery are recorded accurately

About you

You communicate well with customers and are able to discuss and translate those ideas with the design and production teams. Building and maintaining positive relationships is something you enjoy doing.

You'll have the following:

  • A recognised printing industry design qualification
  • Ideally at least two years' experience in developing layouts, designing and preparing artwork for the production of a wide variety of printing and graphic projects
  • A complete understanding of the printing industry, both digital and offset processes
  • Experience in the manipulation of customer supplied files
