Team Leader &#8211; Regulatory Process

We are looking for an experienced people leader to manage our Regulatory Process Team who are responsible for the processing of applications under the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012, and Resource Management Act 1991. This role will work closely with the Manager, Land &amp; Oceans Applications to establish and maintain top-quality processes for the EPA&#8217;s regulatory decision making. This work is important to manage the environmental effects of activities undertaken in the land and ocean environments, for the good of New Zealand. The position is also responsible for ensuring that all key internal and external relationships are developed and maintained within a complex legislative and politically nuanced environment.

We are seeking a self-motivated person who is keen to make a difference to the lives of New Zealanders. Project management and strong communication skills will be valued, as will your commitment to a great team environment. Experience in local government or a relevant industry, such as engineering, environmental science, resource management or natural resources is required. A good understanding of Regulatory process and working knowledge of environmental legislation particularly the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012 and Resource Management Act 1991 is an advantage.


What we&#8217;re looking for

The successful applicant for the role will be focused on leading the Regulatory Process team in the processing of applications made under the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012 and Resource Management Act 1991. We are looking for someone who has:

  • A tertiary qualification in planning, natural sciences, engineering, environmental management, or a general degree with in-depth industry or regulatory experience
  • A strong technical background in local government and resource management consenting, significant infrastructure projects and/or oil, gas or mining industries;
  • Experience working with different stakeholders/users at all levels across government, the public and private sectors;
  • A great understanding of project management principles and their application in different settings
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of complex regulatory issues
  • Proven experience of successfully leading and managing a high performing team
  • The ability to make decisions and manage uncertainty and risk
  • And is proactive and always looking to make improvements
