  • Do you have an interest in the security and well-being of New Zealand and New Zealanders?
  • Do you enjoy inspiring and motivating a team to work towards a common goal?

The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) has an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated person to lead a team of investigators in Wellington who can do all that and more! You will work at the heart of national security ensuring intelligence is timely, accurate and responsive to customer requirements.

The Counter Terrorism team is responsible for ensuring the secure and efficient delivery of operational security and intelligence objectives, playing a key role in protecting New Zealand from the growing and evolving threats against New Zealand, New Zealanders and New Zealand interests.

You will comprehensively understand, lead and direct all intelligence activities your team contributes to and exercise sound judgement to ensure resources are used appropriately, proportionately and securely.

Not only will you question, critique, and seek continuous improvement, but also:

  • Inspire and motivate your team and be committed to staff development
  • Have the drive and determination to manage a complex and diverse portfolio
  • Be comfortable operating at all levels of Government and across the domestic and international security sector

You will also understand the broader security environment in which you operate and engage with your customers on a daily basis - both within the NZSIS and the broader New Zealand Intelligence Community.

In addition, to be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Intelligence operations experience
  • People leadership skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to understand and juggle diverse and competing priorities
  • Strong analytical ability and excellent problem solving skills
  • Proven relationship management skills

We work in a unique environment where no two days are the same. Our team is dedicated, driven and passionate about what we do. We offer a range of benefits including professional development opportunities, subsidised health insurance, an active social club and on-site gym and fitness facilities.

If this role sounds like you and you're looking for work with a purpose at the heart of New Zealand's national security, we would like to hear from you.
