Job Description

Practice Leader - Youth Justice

Permanent, Full Time, Auckland Location (x2)

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children works with the most at risk tamariki and rangatahi in New Zealand. Oranga Tamariki works to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people. In everything we do, the wellbeing and best-interests of children are paramount. The voices of tamariki and rangatahi underpin the design and operation of our services.

Are you ready to challenge yourself and others, in a senior regional leadership role that will make a positive difference for young people and their families? It's an exciting time to be a part of Oranga Tamariki where you can contribute to the transformational journey we are on.

About the role:

In these newly established roles, you will provide professional leadership and analysis to identify areas for improvement.  Working with the regional leadership team, the professional practice group and across Oranga Tamariki, you will establish a planned approach to lifting quality and building expertise in our front line teams, improving the experience and long term outcomes for young people.  You will enjoy finding innovative ways to get the best out of others and have a passion for improving the skills and knowledge base of our people.

You will have the ability to work in Te Ao Māori and articulate a deep understanding of the principles of mana tamaiti, whakapapa and whanaungatanga and its application to social work practice.  An ability to engage and work in partnership with Iwi, Runanga and Māori community will also be central to your work. Additionally, the ability to developmentally understand ‘what works' in responding holistically to the youth population will be a part of your knowledge base.

To be successful you will have:

  • The ability to influence others and safely challenge beliefs and established practices.
  • High levels of energy and the ability to get the best out of others.
  • A passion for a client-centric approach and the ability to role-model good practice principles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly effective facilitation skills.
  • High levels of credibility and integrity.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers and other stakeholders.
  • Openness to travel across the region as required.
