People and Culture Capability Advisor

Madras Campus

Fulltime, Fixed term until December 2020


  • Lead, coordinate and deliver capability development
  • Employ agile learning approaches to support strategic priorities

The People and Culture team comprises People & Culture (HR) services (e.g. administration, HRIS), business partners and specialist functions including Employment Relations, Health and Safety, Health and Wellbeing, Employee Experience and Capability Development.  The mission of the Division is to partner with leaders to continually lift our employees' experience at work and build on our engaging culture so that individuals and the organisation can deliver outcomes beyond their expectations.

The Role

The purpose of this position is to work in partnership with colleagues to build ‘future-focused' people capability at Ara; lead, coordinate and facilitate the delivery of capability development enabling high performance in support of Ara's strategy.  You will partner with your People and Culture peers and leaders to ensure colleagues are highly engaged, professionally developed, future ready and confident in their roles. Our strategic priorities for capability are:

  • Lead, advise, coordinate, support and facilitate high quality professional development and capability activity across the Organisational, Academic and Leadership capability domains
  • Work collaboratively with our Business Partners and leaders to identify needs and priorities and develop plans that improve capability, supporting Ara's strategic direction
  • Ensure the delivery of quality, timely, agile and effective development opportunities
  • Develop and provide capability metrics to evaluate activity and ensure growth and continuous improvement
  • Proactive identification, sourcing, design and development of systems, processes, tools and resources to support quality capability development and improvement at Ara


  • Formal qualification(s) in education, academic development or capability development – preferably to master's level
  • Knowledge and depth of experience in leading cutting-edge capability development strategy and activity
  • Expertise in working alongside Business Partners and leaders to support and influence capability assessment, planning, provision and impact evaluation
  • Extensive knowledge of capability development practices and application of technology in modern learning environments
  • Experience in employing, developing and delivering a full range of interventions to build people capability including experiential learning, e-learning, online tools, coaching and mentoring, influencing, capability assessment and impact evaluation
  • Experience employing quality improvement tools for teachers (e.g. teacher/peer observation) and supporting change in teaching practice
